DeKalb Township:
Whitmore Cemetery, was established on land donated by Clarrissa
Converse Whitmore and Albert Schriver . The cemetery was used in the
1840's, possibly as a family cemetery, but was deeded to the County in 1854 "to
be used forever as a family burying ground." In 1963 plans were being made
to develop a park in this general vicinity and the tombstones were destroyed.
The remains of those who lie buried in this cemetery are still there without a
marker to identify their graves. Located in sections 10 & 11 at the
section line. Inactive.
Barber - Love Cemetery, was located just south of Dresser Road on
the west side of North First Street in Section 14, SW 1/4. This evidently
was small family cemetery in which members of the Barber family buried
their dead. The small cemetery is no longer in view from the road along
North First Street; however, the caretaker of the adjoining church property mows
the grass for a picture perfect landscape.
Inactive as a cemetery but the remains have not been
removed to other cemeteries.
DeKalb County Cemetery, Section 13, SW 1/4, Active.
Located on the former County Farm property on the west side of Rt. 23 near Barber Green
Road. Those less fortunate in surviving the conditions of the day had a home
where food, housing and sickness could be cared for at the DeKalb County Home.
The infirm that died and had no family were buried in this cemetery. This cemetery is well cared for and preserved even though the
old county home has been torn down and relocated. Cemetery has been read
and findings published by the Genealogical Society Of DeKalb County, Illinois.
North DeKalb Cemetery, aka Hoyt
Cemetery, Located 2 miles north of DeKalb off Rich Road
about 1/2 mile west of Glidden Road, . The cemetery was on land owned by Enos
Hoyt and was platted for a 165 x 165 foot burying ground with 96 grave lots by
Mr. Daniel W. Lamb, County Surveyor, on October 17, 1856. During the early
1900's, the condition of the cemetery became run-down and measures were taken to
remove some of the remains to other nearby cemeteries. The few tombstones
that remained were along the
fence row. The cemetery was located in the NW 1/4 Section 4, Township 40 N
R4E of DeKalb Township, along the township line which borders Mayfield township.
It does not exist today.

cemetery platted in 1866; however, the Evergreen and Oakwood Cemeteries were
much larger and burials were not made in this small cemetery. A petition
was made by the property owner, in 1952, to remove the approximate 35 remains to
other cemeteries and this was approved by the DeKalb City Council to vacate the
cemetery and vault to make available the land for other purposes. The cemetery does not exist today.
